Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt
Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt is a mellow Finnish rye malt whiskey. It is made using only the best Finnish malted rye and barley. It is distilled by hand and matured in carefully selected oak casks.
Barley gives Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt a velvety smoothness, rye a spicy sweetness. It adheres to HDCO’s philosophy of taste: it is important that all elements are well balanced.

Releases
Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt Release #21 is a special, 270 bottle limited release for 2021 Suomalaisen Viskin Päivä (Finnish Whiskey Day). It is a single cask bottling of American virgin oak (char #3) selected by Master Blender Kai Kilpinen. This cask is one of the few from an experimental mash-bill made with malted rye (70%) and crystal malt (30%). The whiskey has been matured for five years. Bottles are individually numbered.
Release date is 12.5.2021.
Nose
Vanilla and fudge from the virgin oak cask, malted rye and freshly baked rye loaf from the distillate. Malts and cocoa with hint of citrus.
Flavor
Rich mouthfeel. Aroma has notes of vanilla, dried pears and figs, caramel, licorice, herbs, buttered toast and dark chocolate. Crystal malt gives gentle extra sweetness.

Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt Release #20 is the flagship whiskey of the company that highlights the splended aroma of rye. It is a vatting of American virgin oak and ex-Bourbon barrels selected by Master Blender Kai Kilpinen. All the casks are 200 liter with char levels differing from 1 to 4. The whiskey has been matured for at least five years.
Release date was 15.3.2021.

Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt Rum Cask Finish Release #19 is made using only Finnish malted rye and barley and finished in rum casks. The taste is a balanced combination of the spicy rye and plummy sweetness of the rum. Master Blender Kai Kilpinen has chosen the casks. Whiskey has at first matured in 200-liter American virgin oak barrels for a minimum of three years. After maturing the whiskey has been transferred to ex-rum casks for finishing. The rum casks have previously been used to mature premium rum from different regions. Finishing takes three to six months.

Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt Release #18 is a vatting of four casks. Master Blender Kai Kilpinen has chosen the casks. Whiskey has at first matured in 200-liter American virgin oak barrels for a minimum of four years. After maturing the whiskey has been transferred to Single Malt whisky casks for finishing. The casks have previously been used to mature peated whisky from the Scottish island of Islay to achieve a light, smooth smoky aroma. Finishing takes six to nine months.

Whiskey has at first matured in 200-liter American virgin oak casks (Char level 1). The whiskey has been matured for three years. After maturing the whiskey has been transferred to small 50-60 liter ex-Oloroso Sherry casks for finishing. Finishing takes about four months. Finishing in Oloroso casks brings a deep sweetness that highlights the herbal characters of the rye. Release #10 consist of 380 individually numbered bottles. Release date was 6.2.2019.

Helsinki Whiskey Rye Malt Release #9 comes from a vatting of three casks. Master Blender Kai Kilpinen has chosen the casks. Whiskey has at first matured in 200-liter American virgin oak casks (Char level 1). The whiskey has been matured for three years. After maturing the whiskey has been transferred to small 50-60 liter ex-Oloroso Sherry casks for finishing. Finishing takes about four months. Finishing in Oloroso casks brings a deep sweetness that highlights the herbal characters of the rye and cask strength of 56% ABV gives the whiskey more body. Release #9 consist of only 60 individually numbered bottles made exclusively for Viking Line. Release date was 15.2.2019.

Whiskey has at first matured in 200 liter American virgin oak casks (Char level 1). The whiskey has been matured for three years. After maturing the whiskey has been transferred to ex-rum casks for finishing. The rum casks have previously been used to mature 26 year old Guyianan rum. Finishing takes about six months. Bottling has been made at full cask strength of 59,3% ABV with the amount of 680 bottles. This is the 6th Anniversary bottling for the Viskin Ystävien Seura, the largest whisky club in Finland. Release date was 31.1.2019.
